FAQ

Do I need to install the app on my iPhone?

Yes. iOS delivers web push only to a web app added to the Home Screen (iOS 16.4 or later): open Beckon in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, and turn notifications on from the installed app. iOS also does not show Approve/Deny buttons on the notification itself, so you tap it to open the app and answer there. Android (Chrome) can show the buttons.

Does it work with tools other than Claude Code?

Any program that reports its status with the OSC 7501 escape sequence works. For Claude Code the helper can also recognise its permission prompts on screen. Other programs can be given Approve/Deny buttons with a rule in ~/.config/beckon/detectors.toml. Codex support is not enabled yet because its prompts have not been verified.

Does wrapping change how my command runs?

No. beckon run -- cmd passes all input and output through unchanged and returns the command's exit code. If the network is down, or your plan does not cover this host, the command still runs normally; you just get no notifications.

Can Beckon read my messages or run commands on my machine?

Messages, commands and directories are encrypted on your machine to your paired devices, so the server stores ciphertext. The helper only types keys for an option it offered itself, in response to a message signed by a device you paired. See Security for what the server can and cannot do.

What does the free plan include?

One host, two devices and 24 hours of history, with push and approve/deny. Pro adds unlimited hosts and devices, 30 days of history and per-app notification rules.

What happens if I downgrade?

Nothing is deleted. Your most recently active host stays enabled; the others stop reporting and the helper says why. Saved per-app rules are kept but ignored until you upgrade again.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes, from Settings via the billing portal. Pro continues until the end of the period you paid for.

Can I delete my account?

Yes: Settings → Delete account cancels any subscription and deletes all of your data.

Is there a self-hosted version?

The server ships as a container image that can run on your own infrastructure, but it is not documented for outside use yet.
